Shoppers in Inverness urged to help flood victims in Ukraine
People in Inverness are being urged to support humanitarian aid efforts for Ukraine.
Shoppers at an Inverness supermarket are being invited to support humanitarian aid efforts following last month’s collapse of the Kakhovka dam in southern Ukraine.
Its destruction amid the ongoing conflict with Russia caused widespread flooding across the region.
The UN has warned drinking water supplies could be affected for more than 700,000 people and there are also fears food production will be hit.
Members of the four Rotary clubs in Inverness along with volunteers from charity, Highlands for Ukraine, are collecting for humanitarian aid at Morrisons Supermarket in Millburn Road every day this week until Saturday evening.
Ukrainian refugees who have found a welcome in the Highland capital after fleeing their homeland following the Russian invasion in February 2022, have been sharing their experiences.
They have voiced shock at the deliberate blowing up of the dam which is predicted to have catastrophic ecological and humanitarian consequences for years to come.
