The generous folk of the Highlands of Scotland continue to care for and support their Eastern European friends living in dangerous, terrifying conditions near the front line of fighting in Ukraine, following the full-scale Russian invasion on February 24, 2022.
Every single day, missiles, bombs and bullets rain down on the civilians of the Kherson region – women, children, the disabled and elderly pray to stay alive. And every single night the bombardment intensifies, depriving them of sleep and any hope of comfort.
In this region of Ukraine, not a day goes by without civilians losing their lives and being seriously injured. Their homes are destroyed, and they are left to face destitution and despair.
Two thousand miles away in the Highlands though kind and compassionate folk are collecting aid to try to relieve the suffering. And pictured here are some of the results of those collections… straight from Inverness, Dingwall, Nairn, the Black Isle, so many more locations, to Kherson.
If you are one of the generous people who has been helping, maybe at Tesco and Morrisons supermarkets or by taking food or warm clothing from your own home to our hub in Inverness, here is the proof that it gets to where it is needed most.
Our sister charity, Wings of Ukraine, based in Odessa and working over a wide front where civilians are caught in the fighting, has a list of the genuine cases of hardship and, with the assistance of local police, distribute the food, medicines, warm clothing and nappies. We even include a few treats for the children.
But there’s never enough… we have to keep collecting. Conditions in the battle zones are getting worse, not better, as the defense of the country drags on into its second year. The men are off fighting so the communities that are left struggling to produce enough food and warmth to keep the harsh Ukrainian winter at bay. And in the summer – flooding is the new enemy.
Please help us by offering the items of aid that we urgently need to send from the Highlands. You will find our list of the most badly needed supplies here.
We are a charity that focuses on providing aid for Ukrainians in their homeland and support for those who have chosen to come to Scotland for their own and their children’s safety.
